W&M Fuel Quality

Since its implementation in 1994, the Weights & Measures Fuel Quality program has been a major success story for consumers in West Virginia. By adopting NIST Handbook 130: Uniform Laws and Regulations in the Areas of Legal Metrology and Engine Fuel Quality, West Virginia moved to the forefront of national recognition in fuel quality.

Throughout the state, inspectors take samples of motor fuels which are laboratory tested in a multitude of categories to ensure that consumers receive what is advertised at the pump. Numerous constituents of motor fuels such as octane, vapor pressure and flash points are also checked to ensure that your vehicle engines operate smoothly and efficiently.

Using highly specialized equipment, our inspectors also check fuel storage tanks to ensure that dirt, bacteria or other foreign substances are not present at all fuel locations. Weights & Measures responds to consumer complaints relating to fuel quality.
