Consumer Safety

Consumer Safety consists of the following programs: Elevator Safety Act, Steam Boiler Inspection Law, Amusement Rides and Amusement Attractions Safety Act and Zipline and Canopy Tour Responsibility Act.

Consumer Safety provides oversight and registration of individuals who perform inspections of amusement rides and amusement attractions, elevators, steam boilers and zipline & canopy tours. All devices are required to pass an annual inspection prior to the issuance of a certificate to operate permit. The majority of  inspections are conducted by private inspectors.

A state steam boiler inspector conducts the inspections of uninsured steam boilers and state amusement rides & amusement attractions inspectors conduct inspections for non-profit organizations and public agencies.
